Resource For Unemployed Opens
Online, June 28, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Davidson, NC (June 23, 2010) In an ongoing effort to make career resources more readily available to job seekers the Charlotte Mecklenburg Workforce Development Board has partnered with the North Carolina Department of Commerce and local faith-based and community organizations to launch the Charlotte region's second SHARE Network Access Point location.
SHARE stands for Sharing How Access to Resources Empowers and is a statewide community program designed to enable local residents to access job search resources in their own neighborhoods. SHARE brings together community and faith-based resources as well as local workforce development system partners to provide a comprehensive job resource database connecting Federal, State, faith-based and community resources in one centralized location.
"Empowering the unemployed with the tools and resources to quickly get back to work is our number one priority", says Deborah Gibson, Executive Director of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Workforce Development Board, "Losing a job is traumatic enough without struggling to find our community's many job assistance resources. This new location brings the many resources available at our local Joblink Career Centers right into a job seekers backyard", says Gibson.
The new SHARE Network Access Point (SNAP) is located within the Davidson Housing Coalition's office at 220 Sloan Street, Suite A and will provide labor market research, unemployment registration, resume assistance and job search assistance. Although many of these resources are available on a self-serve basis the center will have staff support available several days each week and appointments are suggested.
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Workforce Development Board provides critically needed training and resources for Charlotte area youth, adults and dislocated workers. In addition the board coordinates programs such as On-the-Job-Training and Incumbent Worker grants and provides strategic coordination on workforce policy issues related to local workforce planning.
