Charlotte Area Businesses Receive Training Grants

CHARLOTTE, NC - North Carolina Department of Commerce, Division of Workforce Development has approved incumbent worker training grants, totaling $192,033 for 12 businesses in Mecklenburg County.

CHARLOTTE, NC - North Carolina Department of Commerce, Division of Workforce Development has approved incumbent worker training grants, totaling $192,033 for 12 businesses in Mecklenburg County. The grants applications were submitted by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Workforce Development Board and are designed to benefit businesses by enhancing the skills of their employees, thereby increasing employee productivity and the potential for company growth.

A total of 415 local employees will be trained with these funds. "Now more than ever businesses realize the link between training and productivity. These grants are critical to helping our local businesses compete in today's global market", said Robert Fish, Chair of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Workforce Development Board. Some of the companies receiving incumbent worker grants include: Strategic Power Systems, Inc., Bull Engineered Products, Inc., Odyssey Logistics & Technology Corp, Celgard, LLC, Pulcra Chemicals LLC, Curtis Screw, Schaefer Systems International, Inc. and Carolina Tractor.

The next round of applications for the Incumbent Workforce Development Program training grant will be due in early January. A program orientation for the grant will be held on December 2, 2009 at CPCC's Harris Campus, 3210 CPCC Harris Campus Drive, 28208-Building 1 Auditorium from 9:30am-11:30am. Registration is required.
