Radon Industry Event Debuts New Initiatives, Products to Protect Consumers

RadonAway and AccuStar Labs participated in the AARST Radon Symposium in Columbus, OH, sponsoring CE courses, exhibiting products, and supporting initiatives for RRNC and increased public awareness. AccuStar's Carolyn Allen is AARST's new President.

Spruce Environmental Technologies, Inc. was well represented at the 2010 International Radon Symposium held in Columbus, Ohio, October 17 through 20. The largest radon industry event in the world, the Symposium is presented by the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST).

Spruce, through its radon industry divisions RadonAway, the world's leading radon fan manufacturer, and AccuStar Labs, which manufactures and analyzes radon test devices in certified laboratories in locations in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, provided continuing education courses, event sponsorships, and organizational support for the Radon Symposium. For Spruce, a major highlight of the event was the introduction of Carolyn Allen, President of AccuStar Labs, as the new AARST President.

During the Symposium international speakers, U.S. EPA and state radon officials, radon educators and researchers, and radon measurement and mitigation experts presented new concepts and initiatives to reduce radon in new homes and to create greater public awareness of the deadly effects of exposure to radon gas, the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers.

David Kapturowski, Spruce's Executive Vice President and chairman of an AARST committee charged with developing a new standard for Radon Resistant New Construction (RRNC 2.0), discussed the committee's progress and the proposed new standard. At the annual awards luncheon, the group recognized Marlene MacEwan, a supporter and board member of Cancer Survivors Against Radon (www.cansar.org), who was instrumental in the passage of an Oregon bill that requires all new buildings in the state be radon resistant.

In the exhibit hall, RadonAway displayed the company's signature radon fans and introduced two exciting new products, the RS180 flat radon fan and the RadStar GM1-2 Grab Sampler / Micro Manometer, a revolutionary dual-function radon diagnostic tool. RadonAway also announced a new Las Vegas shipping point, which makes prompt product delivery even more timely and convenient.

In the classrooms, RadonAway and AccuStar Labs co-sponsored four Spruce Radon Training CE courses: Inspecting Radon Mitigation Systems (presented in conjunction with the Heartland Chapter of AARST), Internet Marketing 101 for Radon Professionals, Legal Services for Radon Professionals, and Advanced Mitigation: The Dreaded Crawlspace. These courses were attended by a total of 212 participants.

Another highlight for Spruce was the annual Customer Appreciation Party, held at O'Shaughnessy's Public House. Approximately 150 customers and friends joined RadonAway and AccuStar for food, fun, awards, prizes and a pint or two. To view photos, videos, and new products information, go to www.radonaway.com
