Purafil's Recent Case Study Featured in the June Issue of Treatment Plant Operator Magazine

Treatment Plant Operator magazine, an eminent publication for wastewater management professionals, has published a recent case study by Purafil in their June edition. The case study involved odor control in Hong Kong's Wanchai West Preliminary Screening Plant utilizing Puracarb dry-scrubbing air filtration media.

A distinguished provider of air quality products and solutions, Purafil is pleased to share that their recent case study conducted at Hong King’s Wanchai West Preliminary Screening Plant has been published in the June edition of the Treatment Plant Operator magazine. This magazine is considered to be a trustworthy resource for the engineers, technicians, and operators working in the wastewater industry. 

Part of the Environmental Air Division at Filtration Group, Purafil is an industry leader in providing odor control solutions for the wastewater treatment industry. The company is also engaged in research activities leading to the development of world-class products for air conditioning, corrosion control, indoor air quality management, pathogen removal, and toxic gas scrubbing.

The case study published in the Treatment Plant Operator magazine was conducted by Purafil at the Wanchai West Preliminary Screening Plant operated by the Drainage Services Department of the Hong Kong Government. Offensive odors from the plant had affected the occupants of several buildings in the area, resulting in complaints from multiple sources. Unfortunately, all odor control initiatives using wet scrubbing technology delivered no results at all.

Purafil’s recommendation in the case was a DS-100 drum scrubber installed at a wet well upstream of the plant and a customized VS12 vessel scrubber on site. Equipped with Puracarb dry-scrubbing media, both of these scrubbers are designed to eliminate the odor generating compounds via irreversible chemical reactions and conversion to harmless salts. The spent media was safely disposed to a landfill. 

The study involved 60 days of independent laboratory testing. The result of this testing indicated that the scrubbers were able to remove more than 99.97 percent of the primary odor-causing material, hydrogen sulfide, exceeding the specification of 99.5 percent.
