Premier Connecticut Organizations Appoint Two KBE Staff Members to Boards of Directors

James Culkin appointed to CBC Board; Charles Juhasz appointed to CT ABC Construction Education Center Board

The Connecticut Building Congress (CBC), Connecticut’s premier networking organization for contractors and related professionals, has appointed KBE Building Corporation’s Vice President of Preconstruction & Estimating James Culkin as a 2017 member of its Board of Directors.

Culkin has been with KBE, a $300 million commercial construction firm regionally positioned in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, since 1996. As Vice President of Preconstruction & Estimating, Culkin oversees preconstruction and estimating services for all of KBE’s projects.

“We’re delighted that Jim has been appointed to the CBC Board,” said Mike Kolakowski, KBE co-owner and CEO, who bought the firm in 2007 with longtime senior executives Eric Brown and Simon Etzel.

Culkin holds a B.S. in engineering from Penn State University and has more than 26 years of field construction experience. In 2012, he earned his Designated Design-Build Professional™ Certification from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA).

In addition to Culkin’s appointment, Connecticut’s premier organization for merit-shop contractors, the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. – Connecticut Chapter (CT ABC), has recognized the merits of KBE Building Corporation’s Charles Juhasz, appointing him as the newest member of the Construction Education Center Board of Directors.

Charles Juhasz is Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing Specialist at KBE Building Corp., a $300 million commercial construction firm regionally positioned to serve the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Juhasz has been with the firm since 2010. He holds an E-2 Unlimited Electrical Journeyman license and has 27 years of industry experience.

“It’s great to see Charlie represent KBE on the Board,” said Kolakowski. “As one of the region’s largest merit-shop construction firms, we have a strong regard for the association.”

CT ABC is a membership association representing merit-shop contractors, who comprise more than 80% of Connecticut’s construction industry. The merit shop philosophy espouses that all construction contracts should be awarded to bidders based on merit, regardless of the company's non-union or union affiliation.

Culkin’s appointment was announced on June 10 at the Project Team and Scholarship Awards Banquet, at which KBE also won the Project Team Award, K-12 Schools category, for its work on Carrington Elementary School. Charles Juhasz was appointed to the CT ABC’s Construction Education Center Board of Directors at the association’s annual rodeo event on May 14.

KBE was also honored by CT ABC earlier this year during the association’s annual awards dinner. KBE received six awards, including CT ABC’s most prestigious, the Merit Cup.
