8th annual 'Gift of Gobble, Thanksgiving's On US' is firm's signature philanthropic event

Hundreds of needy Connecticut families will enjoy their own classic Thanksgiving dinner, courtesy of KBE Building Corporation’s Northeast regional office and its employee volunteers.

During the firm’s 8th annual “Gift of Gobble” event on Nov. 19, KBE personnel assembled 228 meal boxes containing all the ingredients of a classic Thanksgiving dinner: turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, corn, beans, potatoes, yams, rolls, apple pie, pumpkin pie, and a roasting pan.

The meal kits were donated to the following organizations on Nov. 19:

  • American Legion Post 12 – Norwalk, CT
  • Bloomfield Social & Youth Services – Bloomfield, CT
  • Cardinal Shehan Center – Bridgeport, CT
  • Catholic Charities of Hartford – Hartford, CT
  • Columbus House – Middletown and New Haven, CT
  • Fish Food Pantry – Torrington, CT
  • Gemma Moran United Way/Labor Food Center – New London, CT
  • Southington Community Services – Southington, CT
  • Waterbury Youth Services – Waterbury, CT

KBE purchased all food items from Bozzuto’s, Inc., and W.B. Mason donated the boxes.

“Gift of Gobble is our signature event because it perfectly sums up the reason why we started our 50 Ways to Make a Difference program,” said KBE principal owner and CEO Mike Kolakowski, who bought the firm in 2007 with fellow senior executives Eric Brown and Simon Etzel. “It’s great that we can come together with our colleagues and our families to make a difference in the community.”

Many of the family members who attended this year’s event have been helping KBE volunteers since the firm’s inaugural Gift of Gobble event in 2009.

“I’m so happy to be able to give other kids the chance to have a delicious Thanksgiving meal on Thursday,” said Luke, age 13, from Madison, CT. Luke and his two brothers have been helping their father, a project manager with KBE, at the annual event for the last five years.

KBE’s Mid-Atlantic office in Maryland also assembled and delivered 40 meal kits to families in need across the state.

It’s All Because of 50 Ways

KBE’s 8th annual ‘Gift of Gobble’ event is possible because of the firm’s corporate philanthropic program, 50 Ways to Make a Difference.

Established in 2009 to celebrate the firm’s new ownership, name change, and 50 years in business, 50 Ways has helped KBE associates donate nearly $2 million and 12,000 volunteer hours to charitable causes benefiting children, seniors, and military veterans in Connecticut and Maryland.
