Photographer Introduces His New Collection Called 'Eastern Ways'
Smart Crowdfunding is slated to carry out strategic marketing initiatives for the 'Eastern Ways' project on Kickstarter. The campaign is raising funds for a new photographic project celebrating the spirit and style of Ethiopia's Omo Valley.
London, England, July 31, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Photographer and film-maker Alex Franco has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise funds for his newest photographic project. This project will be celebrating the unique style and spirit of the people of Ethiopia’s Omo Valley. Franco wants to display something other than the anthropological and stereotypical images the world usually sees. In the photographer’s own words: “[He is] currently working on a photographic project celebrating the spirit and style of the people of Ethiopia’s Omo Valley: men and women with a sophisticated sense of style and a culture of display, who mix strong tribal traditions with a playful, inventive interaction with Western fashion.”
Alex Franco was motivated to do this after spending a month living with local families in Omo Valley. He came back with a vast array of photographic material which inspired his “Eastern Ways” project. Franco found the men and women of the Omo Valley exciting because of their sense of style, culture, rich local traditions, and the unique way they combined tradition with western fashion. They are a fascinating and unique culture, so part of his goal is “to raise awareness surrounding these tribes and their place in cultural history”. Franco’s original plan was to transform all of his photographs into a book; however he has since decided to expand the project further by creating a film and exhibition as well.

With this goal in mind, he has reached out to the public to help make it happen. His Kickstarter campaign has a goal of $15,000, and will end on August 9, 2014. The funds raised will be used for: airfare, hiring a driver and guide, food and lodging, and fees involved with film production. As an added incentive Franco is offering his supporters the chance to own various sizes of the photographs that will make it into his book, a copy of the film, or a combination of the rewards. Full details about “Eastern Ways” can be found on the Kickstarter campaign page.
