November is HomeAid America's Homelessness Awareness Month

A month-long campaign to raise awareness and fight homelessness

30 Ways in 30 Days

HomeAid America, a nonprofit organization and one of the nation’s largest builders of housing for the homeless, launches Homelessness Awareness Month, an annual campaign held every November to increase awareness about the issues of homelessness.

“Homelessness remains a huge problem in this country,” said Peter Simons, CEO of HomeAid America, the national charity that was founded nearly 30 years ago as a way for the building industry to give back to the community by tackling homelessness.

According to the National Law Center on Homelessness, every year alone, over 3.5 million Americans experience homelessness, and well over one million of them are children. The causes of homeless are many, including job loss, lack of affordable housing, medical crisis, domestic abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder in veterans. It is estimated that 85 percent of people experiencing homelessness are only situational and can be moved back to self-sufficiency.

HomeAid's Homelessness Awareness Month is a time to learn about homelessness, have a genuine discussion about solutions and provide opportunities to take action to provide safe, dignified housing and support services needed to rebuild lives.

“For the richest country in the world to allow so many to go unfed and unsheltered is a national tragedy and one we can do something about,” said Simons. “HomeAid’s Homelessness Awareness Month is a time to learn about homelessness, have a genuine discussion about solutions and provide opportunities to take action to provide safe, dignified housing and support services needed to rebuild lives.”
