Nornickel Announces the Winners of the Social Project Competition - 2020
MOSCOW, December 28, 2020 (Newswire.com) - MMC Norilsk Nickel, the world’s largest producer of palladium and high-grade nickel, headed by Vladimir Potanin, will support 109 social initiatives from Norilsk and the Taimyr (Dolgano-Nenets) region of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Monchegorsk and the Pechengsky District of the Murmansk Region, Chita and Gazimuro-Zavodskoy District of the Zabaikalsky Territory ib the Russian Far North. The grant fund amounted to US$2mln (RUR154mln). The projects will be implemented in 2021–2022.
This year, the most popular nominations in the competition were all centered around the North Pole theme: "Revival", "Good", "The Future" and "Energy". The initiatives of the winners of the competition are promising, diverse and cover a huge number of areas of public and social life: from a center for adaptive classes for children with disabilities to teaching digital literacy to older people; from the anniversary of the First House of Norilsk to museum performances; from scientific collaboration of schoolchildren with university teachers to craft workshops for sewing boars; from robotic tournaments to a digital tutorial and a dictionary of the Nenets language, etc.
"The applicant organizations were sensitive to the current realities of this year: there were projects presented among the winners aimed at supporting social groups that are especially difficult to survive the period of pandemic and quarantine. A significant percentage of projects have appeared where a combination of online and offline formats is expected," - said Igor Sukhotin, Director of the Norilsk Nickel Social Policy Department.
As part of a long-established custom, federal and regional experts determined the winners of the competition, guided by the criteria of the relevance and elaboration of the project's problems, the presence of project logic, as well as assessing the social effect and aftereffects of the applicants' project work.
