NJ Charity Walk -- Walk for Children in Foster Care NJIT Newark

Make a difference in the lives of NJ's abused and neglected children. Join the Foster and Adoptive Family Services Foundation for a NJ charity walk to raise awareness of the needs of NJ children in foster care.

The Foster and Adoptive Family Services Foundation (FAFS Foundation) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit that assists Foster and Adoptive Family Services (FAFS) in raising funds for its programs and services, many of which directly impact the lives of children in foster care. The FAFS Foundation, in collaboration with FAFS, is holding its third annual 5k (3.1 mile) NJ charity walk on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 164 Summit Street on the NJIT Campus in Newark.

The goal of this rain or shine NJ charity walk, which begins at 1:30 p.m., is two-fold. First, to increase community awareness regarding children in foster care as well as the resource families who provide for them. And second, to help Foster and Adoptive Family Services accomplish its mission to provide support, training and advocacy to meet the special needs of foster, adoptive and kinship families, who provide safe, stable and nurturing homes for children in foster care. FAFS is the only nonprofit organization in New Jersey serving as a unified voice for foster, adoptive and kinship families.

Walkers can register online at http://www.fafsfoundation.org/events/8. Registering for this NJ charity walk will enable walkers to create a team and set a team and personal goal. Walkers who raise $30 will receive a complimentary t-shirt. For those unable to attend but wanting to help, there is a virtual walker registration available.

The Foster and Adoptive Family Services Foundation also held a NJ charity walk on September 12 on the Ocean City Boardwalk and on September 26 in Buccleuch Park, New Brunswick.
