New Chairperson of Dublin City Fm Radio Station Elected

Ellen Gunning is the newly elected chairperson of the board of Dublin City fm, the only Special Interest Radio Station in Ireland.

Ellen Gunning is the newly elected chairperson of the board of Dublin City fm, the only Special Interest Radio Station in Ireland . There are 73 radio stations in Ireland and only 11% of them are chaired by women.

“I am a Dubliner and honestly, I can think of no greater honour than to chair the radio station which broadcasts to this vibrant, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural city of ours” said Ellen Gunning. “It is genuinely humbling to be chosen to lead this team of talented, creative, media people” she added.

Ellen Gunning is the director of the Irish Academy of Public Relations which provides online training in pr, journalism and event management, in 5 languages, to students in 50 countries around the world.

Dublin City fm has a core team of 15 employees and hundreds of volunteers who keep the station on air from 7am until 2am each day. The station broadcasts 190 programmes each week and reflects the diversity of the capital city in its programming.

It has arts and entertainment, all genres of music, news and current affairs, sports, and special interest covering a diversity of topics such as food, death, relationships, books and motoring. One of the unique elements of the station is its interest in Dublin’s ethnic communities. It broadcasts weekly programmes for and by members of the Chinese, African, European, Russian and Indian communities.

Ellen was elected chairperson at the station’s board meeting in November 2015. Dublin City fm will be competing for the renewal of their 10-year licence with the BAI (Broadcasting Authority of Ireland) in early 2016.

The station broadcasts the hugely popular “LiveDriveprogramme which brings thousands of commuters to and from work every day. The show provides the only live traffic information on air in Dublin. Staff are based in Dublin City Council’s Traffic Management Centre, where they broadcast twice daily, 7-10am and 4-7pm.

Ellen was elected chairperson at the station’s board meeting in November 2015. Dublin City fm will be competing for the renewal of their 10-year licence with the BAI (Broadcasting Authority of Ireland) in early 2016.
