Navy Veteran Dies In The V.A. Medical Center In Decatur, GA
Atlanta, GA, July 22, 2014 (Newswire.com) - The Atlanta Law Office of Jonathan W. Johnson, LLC and co-counsel Rod Dixon of the Dixon Firm, PC have obtained a settlement in a confidential amount for the widow of a retired service member. Gary Lewis died in the V.A. Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia on January 6, 2011.
The family asserted that Mr. Lewis was known to be allergic to several pain medications and it appeared he was given those medications while in the hospital. According to his widow, he was resting peacefully in his bed when he was given pain medication. After he was given to the medication, he went into almost immediate respiratory failure while his wife was in the room witnessing his death. There was no record that the medications he was given that night had been prescribed for Mr. Lewis by a doctor. The Dekalb Medical Examiner concluded that the cause of Mr. Lewis’ death was opiate intoxication.
Jonathan W. Johnson has been a practicing trial attorney responsible for hundreds of wrongful death cases around the United States and the world since he graduated from law school in 1992.
