National Football League to Be Honored at Tuesday's Children 'Rise Up For Resilience' Gala

NEW YORK, August 30, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Tuesday’s Children, the leading nonprofit organization providing long-term support to communities, families and individuals impacted by terrorism or the loss of a service member in the military, will be holding its annual “Rise Up For Resilience” Gala in New York on Sept. 13. The evening will honor the National Football League (NFL) for its support of Tuesday’s Children, and the U.S. Navy’s Gold Star Program for its work to help families who have lost a member while on active duty.

The gala will take place Thursday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. at Guastavino’s, 409 East 59th Street in New York. The evening will consist of cocktails, dinner, a silent and live auction and live music. The gala is being hosted by NBC 4 New York co-anchor Stacey Bell, a highly accomplished reporter whose commitment to journalistic excellence was recognized with a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for NBC 4 New York’s team coverage of the October 2017 Tribeca terror attacks.

The NFL has been a longtime supporter of Tuesday’s Children dating back to the tragic events of 9/11 when it provided grants to aid thousands of 9/11 and first responder families. Most recently, the NFL awarded Tuesday’s Children a $200,000 grant to launch a youth mentoring program for children who have lost a parent serving in the military. In total, the NFL has provided more than $600,000 in financial support to Tuesday’s Children as well as participated in several programs including National Take Our Children to Work Day, donated tickets for families to see games and hosted military families at their corporate offices to show the inner workings of the league.

The Navy Gold Star program is the Navy’s official program for providing long-term support to surviving families of sailors who pass while on active duty.

“The NFL has played an integral role in helping us expand the reach of our programs to serve a greater number of individuals, families and communities impacted by terrorism or the loss of a loved one in the military,” said Terry Sears, executive director of Tuesday’s Children. “This type of support enables us to continue our work and partner with other organizations like the Navy Gold Star Program.”

Established in 2014, the Navy Gold Star program was created to ensure the families of sailors who die on active duty can remain connected to their Navy family for as long as they desire. Since the program's inception over 12,000 Gold Star family members from WWI to the present have been identified and outreached. Navy Gold Star program staff help meet the needs of survivors by connecting them to military and civilian support services that can provide guidance on any number of issues survivors face while adjusting to their new normal. Through social activities and remembrance ceremonies, the program provides opportunities for families to connect with one another and help sustain the memories of the fallen. The Navy Gold Star program also supports family members of the military fallen regardless of their service branch.
