Microsoft Revamps Hotmail To Stand Against Gmail

Microsoft has renovated and renamed its existing e-mail service, so that it can give a similar experience to its users as that of Gmail.

Seeing Gmail, started by the web giant Google, getting way ahead in the fray, Microsoft has decided to revamp its email service, Hotmail, by giving it a fresh look and feel. Reports also say that the service has also changed its name from 'Hotmail' to 'Newmail'. Microsoft reveals in a report that with this innovative step, the site aims to bring back its millions of users, who had deserted it after the launch of Gmail.

Microsoft and Google have been involved in a cold war since long. Propelling the competition further, Microsoft stated that the design of Hotmail, which has a remarkable similarity with that of Gmail will now feature a clean and a simplified look in terms of the fonts that has been used for labeling the inbox into different categories and carries some identical look like that of Google adversary.

A website called LiveSide, reports that Newmail carries a significantly appealing appearance with an eye-catching home screen, doing away with all the extraneous elements which appeared in Hotmail. However, the new design will feature a 'fluid and interactive design' that can be easily adaptable in mobile devices such as Smart phones, tablets, etc, revealed Microsoft. The site also mentioned that the services from Newmail will primarily be available as an opt-in feature for the existing Hotmail customers, which will be made mandatory in due course of time. Furthermore, the service will be linked with social media platforms like, Facebook and Twitter with automatic updates from friends and relatives.

Report says that despite Gmail's services being widely used across the globe, yet Microsoft's Hotmail remains at number one position with about 360 million active users throughout the world, while Gmail lacks behind with around 350 million users. Report also claims that Gmail had only 260 million users till last October.
