Mick Rodgers Named 2017 Employee Benefit Adviser of the Year

Advances Healthcare Benefits Transformation Movement by re-engineering health plans and building Healthcare Purchasing Coalitions

Mick Rodgers

Axial Benefits Group (ABG), a full-service benefits management company, announced today that Michael “Mick” Rodgers, Principal and Managing Partner at ABG, has been named Employee Benefit Adviser’s 2017 Employee Benefit Adviser of the Year.

Employee Benefit Adviser (EBA), an information resource for benefit’s advisers, brokers, agents and consultants, recognizes individuals for excellence and innovation in five categories: employee benefits, voluntary benefits, retirement plans, wellness, and technology. Each award is presented to the nominee who has demonstrated a consistent pattern of innovation and achievement in benefit plan sales, consulting, and/or leadership, as well as overall contributions to the profession.

By acknowledging our success, this award is also a testament to the progress the benefits industry is making to build trust, strengthen adviser collaboration and further advance the Employee Benefits Transformation Movement.

Mick Rodgers, Managing Partner

Rodgers, an engineer turned employee benefits innovator, received the year’s highest honor for his leadership in the Employee Benefits Transformation Movement and ABG’s accomplishments, which include:

  • managing health plans at a cost more than 40% below the national average cost;
  • transforming benefits purchasing by enabling mid-market organizations to access “bulk-buy” advantages through Healthcare Purchasing Coalitions; and
  • implementing a fee-for-performance compensation model to ensure ABG is always aligned with its client’s best interests.

“I’m honored to receive the ‘Employee Benefit Adviser of the Year Award’ and extremely proud of the work our ABG team is doing to continually improve benefits purchasing and plan formulation through data-driven ingenuity,” said Rodgers. “I’m also extremely thankful for the group of forward-thinking, employee-focused organizations ABG is honored to have as clients. Without their commitment and open-minded mentality, the results we’re achieving together would not be possible.”

Employee benefits impact employee satisfaction and retention, both of which have a tremendous impact on organizations. “Lowering costs, while maintaining or enhancing benefits helps organizations meet employee expectations and financial requirements,” said Elizabeth Galentine, Editor-in-Chief of Employee Benefit Adviser. “Mick and ABG are focused on this goal at all times and have found innovative, new ways to achieve it. They’ve given employers more power, which has resulted in better plans for everyone.”

“By acknowledging our success, this award is also a testament to the progress the benefits industry is making to build trust, strengthen adviser collaboration and further advance the Employee Benefits Transformation Movement,” continued Rodgers, “that is a win for advisers and employers everywhere.”

Rodgers will be formally honored at the 2017 Workplace Benefits Summit. Presentation of the award will be a highlight of the 2017 Workplace Benefits Summit, which will be held Sept. 18-20 in Boca Raton, Florida. Additionally, he will be profiled in the September issue of Employee Benefit Adviser magazine.
