MGTO-USA Awarded PATA Gold Award 2020 in Marketing for 'Macao's Mobile Cafe' in San Francisco

The Macao Government Tourism Office USA (MGTO-USA) campaign titled, “Macao’s Mobile Café 2019,” a 5-day consumer activation and integrated media campaign in San Francisco, has been awarded a “Gold Award” in the Marketing Category at the 2020 PATA Gold Awards.

“Being awarded the PATA Gold Award is a tremendous accomplishment for MGTO-USA. Macao’s Mobile Café campaign was a wide-reaching success in promoting Macao as a captivating destination to the San Francisco community. We are honored by this accomplishment and hope that it will help shed light on Macao’s unique destination offerings,” said General Manager of MGTO-USA, Julie Averay Cuesta.

MGTO-USA has accepted the Gold Award at the PATA Gold Awards Virtual Ceremony on Sept. 24, 2020, as part of the Virtual PATA Travel Mart. Macao’s Mobile Café was among the 20 Gold Awards presented in 2020 by PATA. This year’s awards contest attracted 121 entries from organizations and individuals around the world, with the winners voted on by an independent judging committee.

MGTO-USA hosted Macao’s Mobile Café from May 29 - June 3, 2019, providing San Francisco residents with free food samples, travel deals, on-site destination ambassadors, cultural performances, and trip giveaways. The promotional campaign leading up to the launch included a private media and trade event, integrated paid broadcast, social media campaign, public relations campaign, and an influencer cooking class inclusive of a local chef partnership.

The results of the campaign included: 6,225 food samples shared; 8 million media impressions, across 12 total media placements from the team’s PR efforts and media launch event; three paid broadcast placements, reaching 20 million viewers; 1 million social media impressions, stemming from the influencer event; and 500 applications to the consumer sweepstakes giveaway. Overall, Macao saw an 8.4 percent increase in visitors from the U.S. to Macao in the month following the activation.

This is the second prestigious recognition that MGTO-USA has received for Macao’s Mobile Café 2019. In May 2020, MGTO-USA was distinguished as a Finalist in the Drum Marketing Awards for this campaign.
