Lone Star College Wins Gold at 2017 Ozzie Awards

Partners In Leadership, the Accountability Training and Culture Change Company, awarded the 2017 Gold Ozzie in the education category to Lone Star College, a leader in student-first higher education. The Ozzie Awards celebrate organizations that demonstrate excellence in accountability, leadership and culture through implementation of Partners In Leadership programs.

"Lone Star College is committed to shaping a culture that puts student success as its highest priority," said Ron Paul, Senior Consultant for Partners In Leadership. “Students matter — this belief is the heart of the organization's success and informs every decision it makes, from recruitment all the way to leadership development.”

"This is an incredible honor. To bring something back like this to our organization affirms the work that we're doing."

Debbra Esparza, Executive Director, Organizational Development at Lone Star College

Lone Star College is currently 4th in the U.S. for associate degrees awarded among 1,100 community colleges nationwide, with strong pathways for both academic transfer and workforce education. As the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area, and one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the nation, the organization’s leaders understand that to maintain the strong commitment to students, incoming faculty and staff must embody that commitment.

The organization shapes its hiring and training processes around its culture, developing a framework for identifying and hiring new faculty members who are aligned with the desired Lone Star College culture. In recruiting ads, the college emphasizes the value of prioritizing student success. This belief is the foundational lens the college uses for hiring, informing every step of hiring, training, and ongoing leadership development.

“This is an incredible honor,” said Debbra Esparza, Executive Director, Organizational Development at Lone Star College. Esparza accepted the award at the Ozzie Awards ceremony on the behalf of the college. “To bring something back like this to our organization affirms the work that we’re doing.”

For its commitment to accountability and student success, Partners In Leadership is proud to offer Lone Star College the 2017 Gold Ozzie Award for education.
