Local Businesses Support Towing Industry 5K Debut

Run for the Fund medal

The International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum is kicking off its first annual 5K Run for the Fund to benefit its Survivor Fund on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 8 a.m. The event will begin/end at the towing museum, located at 3315 Broad Street.

Chattanooga-based Lee-Smith Inc., a commercial truck dealership that has been a part of the Chattanooga community since 1939, is the 5K’s gold sponsor.

We couldn't be happier to be involved in an event that benefits the museum, the industry and our hometown.

Dayton Shepard, Executive vice president, Lee-Smith

“Lee-Smith is pleased to be the title sponsor of the Run for the Fund 5K. We couldn’t be happier to be involved in an event that benefits the museum, the industry and our hometown,” says Dayton Shepard, executive vice president of Lee-Smith.

“The international towing museum and the work they are involved in – to recognize the contributions of and create a safer environment for the men and women in the towing and recovery industry – are worthy goals. This fun event will hopefully provide the people of Chattanooga with a better understanding of that mission.”

Miller Industries and Erlanger Children’s Hospital are supporting the fund as silver sponsors.

Todd Harless, marketing manager for Miller Industries, the world’s largest manufacturer of towing and recovery equipment, shared Shepard’s thoughts.

“The running community in Chattanooga is very strong and we feel like Run for the Fund 5K will not only be a great event to raise funds for the Survivor Fund but also bring awareness to the dangers that towing and recovery operators face every day,” said Harless, a local runner. “Miller Industries is proud to be a sponsor of this inaugural event.”

In 2005, the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum established its Survivor Fund to provide immediate financial support to families of towing operators who lose their lives in the line of service in our industry. The towing industry estimates it loses 60 operators annually, with hundreds injured, while handling towing and/or recovery calls.
