Morrison’s art has since been shown in the Prescott Valley Library, then at the local Artist Studio Tour held through the town's civic center in September of 2016, Each piece is one-of-a-kind and crafted with oil paint and wall putty, falling somewhere within the medium of geometric abstraction her art is known as form of visual therapy. Her art has already been well received by many local art enthusiasts and has recently began selling her art early last year.

“Looking at art, really looking, works the same as the burn victims being given virtual reality headsets while the scraping process occurs,” explains Artist, Annessa Y Morrison. She adds, “Your mind goes somewhere other than pain, stress, limitation––which is why I’ve crafted my art with the practice of visual art therapy in mind.”

Dozens of studies have shown to support Morrison’s art healing since as early as the 1980’s, where Psychologist Dr. Dacher Keltner of California University in Berkeley noted in a 2015 The Telegraph article on his study. "That awe, wonder and beauty promote healthier levels of cytokines suggests the things we do to experience these emotions––a walk in nature, losing oneself in music, beholding art––has a direct influence upon health and life expectancy."

She has crafted many original abstract pieces with prints, digital downloads, cards, and even Otter Box cell phone cases for individuals that are now available for purchase online. Morrison’s goal was to enable anyone who wished to have her art accessible during times of stress who are looking to utilize the practice of visual art therapy as an effective and natural healing mechanism through smaller formats.

Her hope is that by making her art accessible online for preview and sale that others will experience the healing properties of her art that has she has experienced looking and then creating them. To learn more about Morrison and her art, please visit: www.AbstractAnnessa.com.

About the artist:

Annessa Y Morrison’s artistic journey began in 2014 following her move to Arizona with her husband Bill to be closer to her family. Following her husband's insistence, the two purchased and easel, canvases, and oil paint for Morrison to practice art in her spare time. She began painting subjects in 2015, but felt weighed down and following her husband’s suggestion, began painting without subjects––researching different styles and experimenting without subjects for much of the year.

By 2016, Morrison embraced the art of impressionists following her venture to an exhibit at the Denver Museum. She began noticing healing properties through viewing art for long periods and became more active––owning her connection with art as the main source of her motivation and ultimate sources of healing of her chronic fibromyalgia.

She began crafting her own original works of abstract art and debuted her first “signature line” on her website. Morrison has since sold pieces to local art lovers around Arizona and is dedicated to healing art with dimension-style pieces that keep individuals ‘searching for more’ in her intriguing art.
