Dr. Ferguson to Discuss Public Health in the Third World
Garden City, NY, March 17, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Adelphi University is proud to announce that James Ferguson ’77, M.D., M.P.H. ’15, one of the first to graduate with a Master of Public Health from Adelphi’s College of Nursing and Public Health, will deliver the Joseph J. Napolitano Memorial Lecture on Monday, March 28, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom of the Ruth S. Harley University Center. His lecture, Medicine, Science and Public Health in the Third World: A Personal Odyssey, is free and open to the public.
Ferguson has spent 30 years as a family physician and has applied that knowledge and experience in his trips to developing nations. Since 2007, he has traveled to Honduras, Haiti, Ghana and Russia on medical mission trips with groups such as Global Brigades and Heart to Heart, as well as with renowned doctor and humanitarian Patch Adams, M.D.—the subject of a 1998 Robin Williams movie. Closer to home, Dr. Ferguson also runs free clinics for the Eastern Farm Workers Association and for residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
