IEC Foundation Awards Grants to Support Electrical Apprentices

The Independent Electrical Contractors Foundation (IEC Foundation) recently awarded grants to support the future growth and training of electrical apprentices. These grant programs include the Equipment Grant and The Home Depot ProXtra Grant.

The Equipment Grant secures its corporate donations of materials and equipment used to update student labs in IEC chapter campuses through the Foundation's partnership with IEC National industry partners. The 2018 Equipment Grant program is sponsored by Eaton and Square D by Schneider Electric. This year, 17 IEC chapters received materials and equipment through the Equipment Grant.

"It is an honor to serve as chairman of the Foundation and have the opportunity to work with such outstanding industry partners," said IEC Foundation Chairman Tom Alexander. "Eaton and Schneider Electric are just two of the many that we have the opportunity to work with that stand out for our Equipment Grant."

IEC members can get 2% cash back on all qualifying pre-tax purchases when enrolled in The Home Depot ProXtra program. Through this partnership, The Home Depot donates a half of a percent of all the sales in this program to the IEC Foundation. This led to the IEC Foundation receiving $169,886 in 2018 due to the success of the program. These donations have been disseminated through The Home Depot ProXtra Grant to 23 IEC chapters.

In a letter of thanks, IEC Central Ohio Executive Director Barb Tipton emphasized that the growth and expansion of her chapter’s training center “would have been slowed” without the assistance of The Home Depot ProXtra Grant.

The IEC Foundation will maintain its commitment to improving the educational opportunities available to electricians and apprentices through IEC National and its chapter network thanks to the generous contributions provided.
