IEC Applauds the President's Effort to Close the Skills Gap

The Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) applauds President Trump for signing an executive order to further advance apprenticeship opportunities across the country. With a projected deficit of over 150,000 electricians by the year 2020, IEC and its 50 chapters stand ready to work with the Trump Administration to close the skills gap within the merit-shop electrical contracting industry.

“IEC is grateful for the urgency the president has placed on the need to further develop a skilled workforce,” Said IEC National CEO Spenser Villwock. “We look forward to the opportunity to work with the administration to break down barriers in apprenticeship that will help provide more jobs in the field of electrical and systems contracting, leading to prosperous career pathways for Americans, meeting workforce needs, and helping our economy to soar.”

IEC is an association of over 50 affiliates and training campuses, representing over 3,300 member businesses nationwide. Its purpose is to establish a competitive environment for the merit shop — a philosophy that promotes free enterprise, open competition, and economic opportunity for all. IEC’s world-class apprenticeship programs operate under standards approved by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship and provide up to 40 hours of post-secondary college credit. Collectively, IEC trains more than 10,000 electrical apprentices each year. Learn more about IEC and its apprenticeship programs at www.ieci.org and www.myelectriccareer.com.
