Icinga 2 v2.4.0 & Icinga Web 2 v2.1.0 Released

The Icinga Project released Icinga 2 v2.4.0 and Icinga Web 2 v2.1.0 of their open source monitoring solution for download. The new core version is by far the biggest major release of Icinga 2 and features a unified REST API. Icinga Web 2 comes with a refined UI styling in the web interface. November 16, 2016 - Icinga, Enterprise Open Source Monitoring, released their new versions for download.

Icinga 2 v2.4.0

In the core, the new unified REST API allows to create configuration objects and delete or modify existing ones at runtime without a restart. All object updates are now synchronized to all related cluster zones. Users deploying with a configuration tool can manage configuration packages and stages using the API as well.

Full capabilities of exposing all object attributes to the user have been added, helped with filters and joins to limit the output. The scheduling of maintenance downtimes or the acknowledgement of open problems has been simplified. The former external commands have been revamped into actions providing clear-cut interfaces and feedback on errors.

Event streams allow to subscribe to specific core events, be it a check results, notifications, or acknowledgements. Users are now able to forward these events to their favorite system applications and to use these metrics for integration with other tools. There’s also support for executing expressions and fetching the type hierarchy of config objects if users want to implement their own API client.

The Icinga 2 API uses HTTPS with basic auth or client SSL certificates and fully supports IPv4 and IPv6 similar to the Icinga 2 cluster. Even permissions for API users for specific URL endpoints with optional object filters can be set. Icinga 2 v2.4 also introduces a new Graphite schema revamped from community feedback. Tackling configuration errors with dynamic apply rules is now helped with Icinga 2 script debugger.

Icinga Web 2 v2.1.0

After the exciting release of Icinga Web 2 v2.0.0 right before Icinga Camp Portland the developers have been working hard to resolve open issues and also to refine the UI styling once more.

This includes an enhanced service- and hostdetail area and a redefined table control element. A clear CSS structure makes the implementation of individual themes and styles even simpler.
