How Gateway Concepts Plans to Maximize Q4 Opportunities

Gateway Concepts' director shared a three-point strategy for making the fourth quarter successful. She also pointed out the importance of hiring and training to success.

“Three months is really the perfect amount of time to connect long-term goals to immediate action steps,” shared Ali, Gateway Concepts’ director of operations. “It’s long enough that progress can be made and measured, but at the same time it’s short enough that you can maintain focus and course correct when necessary.”

The secret to making the most of a quarter is not to do too much. Especially during the holiday season, it’s a 90-day sprint; Ali warns that having too many goals ensures that none of them are seen through to fruition. Instead, she suggests that teams concentrate on two or three primary areas.

"Three months is really the perfect amount of time to connect long-term goals to immediate action steps,"

Ali, Director of Operations

According to Ali, the first objective should be centered on identifying and dealing with the one biggest limiting factor to the business’ growth. “This should be as specific as possible. Cash flow isn’t going to do it. Think about the detailed reasons your cash flow isn’t what you want it to be.”

The next area of focus should revolve around the biggest opportunity a company has. For the fourth quarter, this is obviously the holiday consumer, but again Ali stresses that specificity is vital. Knowing demographics and consumer trends will help attract core consumers not only during the holidays, but year round.

Finally, the Gateway Concepts director stresses the need to know and address the biggest threat a company faces. Again, using year-end needs as an example, increased competition for customer attention might be what poses the most danger to solid fourth-quarter numbers. If so, a plan to address this concern is vital.

How Training Keeps Gateway Concepts Relevant and Competitive

One way Ali and the Gateway Concepts leadership team ensure that these three quarterly objectives are met is by investing in continuous training for the firm’s associates. Not only are new hires immediately paired with experienced professionals for mentorship and guidance, but formal classroom-style training sessions are offered as well. These occur both at Gateway Concepts and at off-site locations, including the occasional weekend retreat.

“Setting goals is vital for success, but if you don’t teach your people what to do – and then continuously reinforce that education with continued learning and a culture that supports and empowers – then your business will struggle. Consistent training has been foundational to our success here at Gateway Concepts, and it’s one of the main reasons I’m completely confident that we’ll end 2015 strong.”
