Homewood, Illinois and the Development of David Bossy

The Halsted Street Corridor Development in Homewood, Illinois almost never got off the ground. If it wasn't for the skills of David Bossy and Mid-America Partners, that corridor could still be without the vital businesses that constitute it today. Now it's thriving, but there were two big problems when it came to getting it started. The first was getting retailers to come to the area. The second was convincing residents that they wanted what was being offered by those retailers. Both were serious challenges, because many retailers failed to see the value in the local area, and many residents were against the idea of further development in that general location.

Fortunately, David Bossy was able to convince Home Depot to buy the 26-acre parcel where the vacant mall sat, tear the mall down, and use 13 of those acres to build their store. They eventually sold the other 13 acres to Bossy, and Bossy promptly began development there, as well. Jewel was across the street, and Bossy got them to relocate to the new construction. Office Max was also added. Originally residents wanted to see Kohl's or Target move in instead of the relocation of Jewel, but the relocation of Jewel has doubled their sales and added much value to the town. The shopping center is thriving and has taken the place of what was a vacant mall where nothing was being accomplished to improve the community.

By developing the area instead of allowing it to sit empty, Bossy showed the local residents of Homewood that there was value in their town and that they could do more with what they had available to them. That made a big difference in revenue generation for the businesses that moved in, but it also affected the town itself through more jobs, more taxes to be used to pay for roads and schools, and other benefits. Eventually, David Bossy also convinced Kohl's to close their Calumet City store and relocate to Homewood, adding even more value to the city's growing economy. With Jewel, Home Depot, Kohl's, and Target as anchor stores, it became much easier to lure additional stores to the area, as well.

An entire retail corridor was created in Homewood, IL thanks to Bossy, bringing in important revenue for the town of Homewood and the people who live there. But that was only the start. Since that time, Bossy has moved on to develop many other projects. Through the work he does and his development efforts, Bossy has also managed to develop as an individual, as well. Bossy has gained an even better understanding of how to go about bringing change to communities and is now more focused than ever on ensuring that people and locations get the most out of retail development in their area. Creating more revenue for a number of communities in the area has been Bossy's goal for some time, and it will continue to remain one of Bossy's most important goals well into the future.
