Hastings & Hastings Commemorates Pearl Harbor Day

On December 7th 1941, at 7:48 A.M. Hawaii Time, Pearl Harbor Naval Base was attacked. 353 bombers, fighters, and torpedo planes launched from six nearby Japanese aircraft carriers and commenced two devastating waves of bombings. All told, 4 US Navy battleships were sunk, 188 aircraft were destroyed, 2,403 lives were lost, and 1,178 individuals were injured. It was one of the most deadly attacks ever made on U.S. soil.

On December 7th, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Hastings & Hastings commemorated those that have been lost.

Following the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on Japan and entered into the conflict of World War II. The rest is history. Today, memorials have been built on the island of Oahu commemorating the attack on Pearl Harbor. The USS Arizona, which as damaged beyond the point of recovery still lays at the bottom of the bay in Pearl Harbor. Visitors to Pearl Harbor can take the official tour in which they will be taken by ferry to the floating memorial building built over the wreck of the USS Arizona. There they can peer down through the crystalline, clear, blue waters of the harbor and take in the immensity of the ravaged battleship. It is said to be a once in a lifetime experience.

"We can never do enough to honor those that have given their lives for our nation. Both the members of the United States Armed Forces, and the civilians who passed away during the attacks should be remembered as heroes,"

Dave Hastings, Founder

It is a national tradition to fly the United States Flag at half-staff for the duration of the day on December 7th, raising it again only after sunset. In 1990, preceding the 50th anniversary of the attack, Congress created the Pearl Harbor Commemorative Medal which was awarded to any member of the U.S. Armed forces who was present in Hawaii during the attack. Although not official a federal holiday, Hastings & Hastings believes that Pearl Harbor Day is one of the most important on the calendar.

“We can never do enough to honor those that have given their lives for our nation. Both the members of the United States Armed Forces, and the civilians who passed away during the attacks should be remembered as heroes,” said David Hastings, the founder of Hastings & Hastings.
