Ernest "The Cat" Miller, former WCW Superstar and commissioner of the River City Sports Festival [RCSF], an amateur multi-sport competition being held May 9-11, 2014, in Mason City, Iowa, today announced that event organizers are adding flat-track roller derby to the already strong lineup of individual and team competitions. The move comes as flat-track, or flat-surface, roller derby contests are heating up in the Iowa area, as well as across the country. Registration and more competition information are available at www.rcsportsfestival.com.

"Modern roller derby is experiencing a mind-boggling explosion and the type of envy-inducing expansion most other amateur sports could only dream of," Miller said. "It's growing popularity and innovative grassroots engages women and teenagers, and is all about lifting each other up, working together, and empowering the next generation. For this reason alone, we are very excited about making it a big part of the River City Sports Festival next month. We are expecting a tremendous turnout and fans from all ages to experience this fascinating competition."

Flat-track roller derby is a fast-paced contact competitive team sport that requires speed, strategy and athleticism. This version of the sport evolved in 2001, and now boasts more than 700 leagues across 25 countries around the world. This is in large part due to the ease of setting up a flat track on any flat surface suitable for skating, such as skating rinks, basketball courts and parking lots.

The roller derby competition at RCSF will be hosted in the parking lot at North Iowa Area Community College [NIACC] on Saturday, May 10, 2014. The three-day event will also feature archery, basketball, dance, karate, power lifting, softball and wrestling for both individual and team competitors. Competitions will be held at the NIACC complex, while Mason City Parks and Recreation will host the softball tournament and the Mohawk Archery Club will host the archery contests.

Miller and Ronin' Productions, presenter of the amateur multi-sport competition, in partnership with the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the North Iowa Sports Authority, recently kicked-off a campaign to offer free tickets to the event's headlining spectacle, the "Rumble in River City," a professional wrestling show set for May 10 at NIACC. Free tickets are now available for the first 1,000 competitors registering in advance for RCSF. Registration for the inaugural RCSF is now open. For more information, visit www.rcsportsfestival.com.
