From the Isle of Capri to Worth Avenue Socapri Opens Flagship U.S. Store in Palm Beach

With the help of retail real estate expert Sharon Dresser, Carmine and Marino Cucinella have brought Socapri to the U.S.

When Carmine and Marino Cucinella were looking to bring their first Italian clothing store from the Isle of Capri to the U.S., they didn’t look to New York, Los Angeles or Miami. Instead, they focused on another place where the lifestyle was, like their own resort island, relaxed yet refined – Palm Beach.

To find them the perfect location, the Cucinellas turned to Sharon Dresser, co-founder and president of Miami-based boutique real estate firm High Street Retail. Dresser met Carmine Cucinella in Milan while on business and the two agreed that Worth Avenue shoppers would be quick to recognize his brand’s unique style and the detail that goes into every piece of clothing and accessory.

"The Cucinella's are very particular about where they want to go next. They want to make sure it's the right fit with customers who appreciate their brand's European sophistication and style."

“We visited Palm Beach several times and loved everything about it,” says Carmine Cucinella, who, with his brother, founded Socapri in 2013. “Palm Beach clientele, like those in Capri, are very fashionable, exclusive and sophisticated. We decided there was no better place to introduce our unique brand.”

Socapri’s 1,480 square foot store, located at 235 Worth Ave., Suite C, is twice as large as its store in Capri and features Italian-made women’s and menswear created from the finest fabrics, along with leather shoes, hats, handbags, Carthusia perfume and other accessories.

“This opportunity to work with the Cucinellas was so exciting because the brand is unique,” says Dresser, who signed Socapri to a five-year lease. “Everything is done exquisitely with so much thought and detail – from the handmade Italian shoes down to the etched glass perfume bottles.”

Dresser is painting the landscape of Worth Avenue one unique store at a time. Socapri becomes the third exclusive boutique that Dresser has brought to the area in recent years.

The Cucinellas hired Jocelyne Dunn to manage the Palm Beach store. She has worked on Worth Avenue for many years and has represented a number of high-end brands, including those from Italy.

“Our customers are very excited about the brand. They tell us this is exactly what they want to wear when in Palm Beach and in all of the other resort areas where they travel,” says Dunn.

With its sleek white walls, turquoise ceiling designed to represent the ocean, and arched entryway, Socapri Palm Beach provides customers with a tropical island vibe that conveys the lifestyle of the Cucinella’s Italy.

With their first location across the ocean open, the Cucinellas are already looking to open a second, and possibly a third U.S. store.

“The Cucinella’s are very particular about where they want to go next,” says Dresser. “They want to make sure it’s the right fit with customers who appreciate their brand’s European sophistication and style.
