From Finland to West Virginia and then Around the World

West Virginian sauna company has record year thanks to their new line of indoor saunas and hires more employees.

Renick, WV is more than 4,400 miles from Helsinki, Finland – a whole world and culture apart.  But this small American town and the capital of a Nordic nation share a unique commonality: saunas.

Almost Heaven Saunas – a company usually noted for their Canadian red cedar barrel saunas – has been crafting saunas in the Finnish tradition at their factory in Renick for almost 40 years.  From their factory they ship to consumers and dealers all across the nation and around the world, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Russia, and the United Kingdom.

"We have hired many additional people, and the work ethic and commitment to quality by our West Virginia workforce is exceptional!"

Rick Mouw, President

Currently, Almost Heaven employs more than 15 craftsmen in Renick, some of which have worked there for more than 20 years.

“We have hired many additional people,” said Rick Mouw, president of Almost Heaven Saunas, “and the work ethic and commitment to quality by our West Virginia workforce is exceptional!”

2014 was a record year for Almost Heaven Saunas with sales up nearly 35 percent in the domestic market and about 65 percent internationally since 2013.  Mouw attributes this growth to the company’s launch of a new series of indoor saunas made from Canadian coastal hemlock with red cedar accents.  And as the company grows, Mouw said that they are expecting to add more jobs at the factory in Renick.

While Almost Heaven Saunas hopes for big changes ahead, Mouw remains committed to the quality craftsmanship that his company and his workers have become known for thus far.

“Each board is personally inspected and every component is assembled by hand,” he insisted.  “It will always be that way under my watch.”
