Footprint to Africa records a documentary for the Government of Sierra Leone to boost the country's FDI

Barrister Osita Oparaugo, Managing Director, Footprint to Africa and his team arrived Freetown, Sierra Leone on the 20th of March 2016, on a working visit to record the documentary ‘I Have Seen Sierra Leone’ aimed at highlighting the tremendous opportunities in the country.

Their first call was the Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA) where a strategic meeting was held with Mr. Raymond Kai Gbekie, the Chief Executive Officer of the Agency.

"Thank God, we have a people and government with a President that did not panic in the face of this war and fought back. Ebola was a war to us and we fought as a nation and won. Our doors are open to investors in all areas of the economy and the return on investment will leave more investors coming because our country is blessed with abundant mineral resources and warm people,"

Barrister Oparaugo informed Mr Gbekie that his company is aware of the government’s effort to get Sierra Leone back to growth after the Ebola crisis which resulted in a loss of about US$2 billion in forgone economic growth in 2014 and 2015 to the three affected countries, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.

He commended the government and the people of Sierra Leone for their resilient approach towards fighting the disease, stressing that his company, Footprint to Africa and her network of partners are committed to supporting Sierra Leone’s economic recovery by making information available to thousands of investors all over the world who rely on their report as the investment news platform is fast becoming the number one business news point for foreign investors to make informed decisions on where and when to invest in Africa.

Mr Gbekie thanked Barrister Oparaugo and his team for the work they are doing at Footprint to Africa and urged them to join his agency as strategic partners in their program tagged ‘Back To Growth’.

He highlighted that Sierra Leone was among the 6 fastest growing economies in the world before Ebola struck. “Thank God, we have a people and government with a President that did not panic in the face of this war and fought back. Ebola was a war to us and we fought as a nation and won. Our doors are open to investors in all areas of the economy and the return on investment will leave more investors coming because our country is blessed with abundant mineral resources and warm people,” he said.

The Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency chief revealed that poor packaging stands as a serious impediment to Sierra Leone’s ability to export to global markets.

According to him, good quality packaging and labeling is of critical importance to improving the competitiveness of Sierra Leone’s exports, and to also enable the country to increase its market access.

He appealed to the Managing Director of Footprint to Africa to use his platform to attract investors to these areas.
