First Statewide Giving Day for New York, #NYGivesDay 2016, Brings in Over $11 Million in Donations and Gifts

The New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON) and United Way of New York State are pleased to announce the success of New York’s very first statewide giving day, New York Gives Day 2016.

Held in tandem with this year’s #GivingTuesday movement on November 29th, 2016, New York Gives Day involved over 900 nonprofits working together to raise over $11 Million in donations and gifts from more than 29,000 donors.  Official numbers are available at www.nygivesday.org.

“We’re honored to be a part of such a collaborative philanthropic movement for our entire state. It was great seeing so many nonprofits and their supporters come together toward both individual and collective goals.  Thank you to everyone who made this day successful,” said Reg Foster, President and CEO of United Way of New York State.

“We couldn’t be happier for the participating nonprofits and the causes they serve,” said Valerie Venezia, VP of Membership and Marketing at NYCON.  “We were really excited to offer the NYCON $250 “Golden Ticket” to a randomly selected member every four hours! Seeing the great results from the first New York Gives Day, and the energy that it generated, we invite others to experience that joy and partner with us to make the day even bigger next year.”

In celebration of #GivingTuesday, GiveGab, the technology partner for New York Gives Day, waived their 5% platform fee for all nonprofit participants on November 29, 2016.  By having free access to an online giving platform, nonprofits of all sizes were able to participate and contribute to this amazing day.  All participants were also provided with free resources, webinars, tutorials, and complete access to GiveGab's suite of fundraising and volunteer management tools, in order to help them be successful on this giving day and beyond.

“This Giving Day exceeded our expectations, and we’re overjoyed that we were able to help bring support to nonprofits throughout New York state on our giving platform, ” said Charlie Mulligan, CEO and Co-Founder of GiveGab.

Beyond New York Gives Day, participating nonprofits will continue to have the benefit of utilizing GiveGab's fundraising and supporter engagement tools year-round.
