An announcement in the New York Times reported that DiCaprio will be developing a $250 million dollar eco resort on this island. It is reported that DiCaprio purchased Blackadore Caye with his business partner, Jeff Gram who is the owner of Cayo Espanto Island Resort, one of the world’s most luxurious private island resort developments with room rates costing as much as $2,500 a night. This resort has hosted celebrity guests including Bill Gates, Tiger Woods, Robert De Niro and Harrison Ford.
Belize has 8,800 sq. miles of land and a population of roughly 340,000, giving it the lowest population density in Central America and one of the lowest in the western hemisphere. Belize is the only country in Central America with English as its official language. The country is also eco-friendly with a staggering 46 percent of its land and sea dedicated to a national park and marine reserve.
