Financial Education Benefits Center Warns Against Drowsy Driving and Offers Roadside Assistance Benefit

Drowsy driving may be more prevalent than previously thought, according to a recent study. Drowsiness played a factor in about nine-and-a-half percent of 700 studied crashes, much higher than the one or two percent of crashes that the government cites. No matter the numbers, drowsy driving is unsafe and should be avoided. However, even the most careful drivers can need help on the road, including a tow. Financial Education Benefits Center (FEBC), a membership company, is offering a roadside assistance benefit to eligible members that offers coverage up to certain amounts on towing.

“It’s easy to get exhausted after a long day at work or on a road trip, which is why drowsy driving affects so many people,” said Jennifer Martinez, Manager at FEBC. “We encourage the safest driving practices possible, but sometimes things don’t always happen as planned. That’s where the roadside assistance benefit comes in.”

Many Americans get less than the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep, which contributes directly to dangerously drowsy driving. In the worst cases, drowsiness can be as harmful as drunk driving. While there have been advances in vehicle technology to prevent accidents that result from drowsy driving, human error is still widespread.

Eligible FEBC members who may need their car to be towed—whether related to a drowsy driving-related incident or not—can avail themselves of the roadside assistance benefit. The benefit covers tows up to certain amounts. FEBC members can call a number any day, at any time, and assistance will be dispatched.

“Needing a tow truck is never a good thing, but it may help to know a trusted service is going to assist you, rather than scrambling for help,” said Martinez. “It’s a good idea for any FEBC member who accesses this benefit should store the roadside assistance number in their phone so they have a little more peace of mind.”
