Financial Education Benefits Center Asks: Are You Not Entertained?

Lack of Entertainment

For cable-junkies and cord-cutters alike, television offers such a wide array of programming that information overload can sometimes kick in. The seemingly endless possibilities may do more harm than good. Who hasn’t ever spent way too long choosing what to watch? And finding an irresistible show can even be a problem, as one study has shown people who binge-watch are more likely to feel anxious, stressed, depressed or lonely. Financial Education Benefits Center, a membership benefits company specializing in health and financial wellness benefits, suggests backing slowly away from the screen and spending a few hours a week looking for alternative forms of entertainment.

“Binge-watching is tough to avoid sometimes because you don’t always realize you’re doing it until three hours have passed and it’s dark outside,” FEBC Manager Jennifer Martinez started, “and we want our members to feel they have options that could help them get away from their TV and find other ways to entertain themselves.”

Some options available through FEBC may even counteract all the time spent sedentary on the couch. Depending on geographic location, members may find benefits ranging from discounts on SCUBA lessons or martial arts classes to horseback riding or kayak rentals. Such activities will get the blood pumping while encouraging members to cultivate new interests or rekindle past hobbies.

If members are not into such athletic activities, many may find a discount on local theatre or comedy clubs. Discounts on art classes or museum admission can bring out the inner artist in anyone. Multiple benefits offered by FEBC nourish a desire for a creative outlet. More than just providing an alternative to television, these discounts can either help a person discover an artistic side that they do not know exists or provide an opportunity to dive back into a former artistic pursuit.

“No matter the direction a person wishes to take their entertainment, FEBC has options,” Martinez began to conclude, “and almost all those options include getting off the couch. FEBC is all about health and wellness, and if our entertainment benefits can help a person find a better balance between going out and staying in to watch TV, then we feel those benefits have done their job.”
