"Successful powersports dealers make the entire industry stronger. This program is designed to raise the bar and act as a pacesetter and a benchmark for powersports retailers of all sizes, brands, sales volumes and market share."

Bob Althoff, President of Dealernews

“Top 100” is the North American powersports industry’s largest, longest running and most prestigious competition of retail excellence. Since its launch in 1992, nearly 900 powersports Dealers and vehicle retailers in the United States and Canada have achieved Top 100 recognition, which is awarded on an annual basis.

For the 25th Anniversary competition, Dealernews challenges retailers to demonstrate their Commitment to the Customer. Entrants will be asked to describe their customer-facing activities, how they’re reaching new markets, and ways in which their retail operations – and team – are ambassadors for the industry, sport, riding lifestyle and community.

“Successful powersports dealers make the entire industry stronger,” said Bob Althoff, president of Dealernews. “This program is designed to raise the bar and act as a pacesetter and a benchmark for powersports retailers of all sizes, brands, sales volumes and market share.”

Top winners this year will receive a new prize package that includes mention on Dealernews.com, plus award presentations at their dealerships that will be hosted by Dealernews, and support for promoting the news to local media.

The 25th Anniversary competition is more streamlined. “The entry process focuses on what retailers do best – providing excellent experiences and relationships with their customers, and supporting the rider lifestyle,” said Mary Green, Top 100 competition director. “In addition, several questions will allow entrants to answer in the form of short videos – which will make it fun for the competitors, as well as the judges.”

New for 2017 – the Top 100 IDEA Awards

Also new for this year’s competition, the Top 100 IDEA Awards will honor achievements in specific performance categories, including Parts and Service, Accessories, Team Building, and will even offer a Best Sales Approach video contest.

Moreover, the vehicle brand with the most retailers named to the Dealernews Top 100 will receive a special Vehicle Brand of the Year award. Past brand winners have included Suzuki, Yamaha and Harley-Davidson.

Top 100 is a juried competition. Entries are evaluated by dozens of industry, business and retail professionals across North America.  Each entry is reviewed multiple times, by multiple judges, according to set scoring guidelines. The top 100 highest scoring entrants become the Top 100 Dealers for the year, and the highest scoring entrant becomes the Dealer of the Year.

Past Dealers of the Year – now in the Top 100 Hall of Fame – include New Jersey’s Motorcycle Mall, Skagit Powersports in Washington, McGrath Powersports in Iowa, Malcolm Smith Motorsports in California, and Man O’War Harley-Davidson in Kentucky.

The Top 100 competition website not only provides access to the submission process, but also provides resources such as a Frequently Asked Questions page and a special “prep sheet” for entrants.
