"Next Up: Detroit's Good Guy D. MARTIN"

At first glance, Detroit rap artist D. Martin's clean-cut and youthful appearance, along with his innocent demeanor, gives the impression of a Sunday morning choir boy more so than a rapper raised on the hard streets of Detroit. But at a time when today's rap music and rappers seem synonymous with glorified violence, glamorized drug use, and free-for-all "sexcapades", many might say that D. Martin's playful, yet witty lyrics fueled by social issues are just what rap needs.
Born De'Airus Martin, the soft-spoken 23-year-old's first spark as a rapper came to him at the tender age of 14. D. Martin recorded his first single, Guess Who's Coming, in 2000 with former Chedda Boyz producer Mall. In 2001, Guess Who's Coming was featured on DJ Drunken Master's "Holiday Hold Up" mix tape. In 2003, as a junior attending Henry Ford High School, D. Martin released a low budget mix tape. It was his first effort and served as a learning experience. Not to be deterred, his second mix tape, "Let It Rip", was released in 2005. As a high school graduate, D. Martin sought out to please his mother by attending Henry Ford Community College for 1 ½ years. In 2008, D. Martin became a member of Detroit's power group, Da C.O.R.E. and his crowd-pleasing dance track "I Like Dat" was featured on Da C.O.R.E.'s sophomore album titled NEXT UP!. Da C.O.R.E.'s NEXT UP! cd went on to sell over 3,000 copies before it even hit the stores.
Having done numerous radio interviews and performed at numerous venues throughout Michigan, D. Martin has also been known to take his act on the road as well, performing live in 2008 at The Shadow Lounge in Pittsburgh, PA. In 2008, he also participated in The Annual Mack Alive Parade (the parade includes a community rally, free food and drinks, carnival rides and games, prizes, and encouraging performances to the area youth), which is held on Mack Avenue and dedicated to enhancing the growth and development of Detroit's East Side. Last year, D. Martin organized a canned good drive through a live performance to help feed people in need. The canned goods were donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank located in Southeastern Michigan.
His debut his solo album, "ENTER DA GAME", With tracks such as "Wrap It Up" encouraging protected sex and "Sick & Tired" touching on the struggles in a modern day recession, actually takes on the concerns of today's young adults. There's also the grown and sexy track "Special Lady", featuring singer Jay Skip and super-producer Darksyde. The album will be available in numerous music retail stores and online at cdbaby.com for purchase.
