CoveringsETC Presented at Wallpaper* Hotel VIP Grand Opening in Milan
Tuesday 12 April Wallpaper* Magazine will launch it's annual Wallpaper* Handmade designer exhibition at Salone del Mobile. The strictly invitation only glamorous event will unveil the designers and brands that have come together to fashion custom designs for the Wallpaper* Hotel.
USA , April 8, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Tuesday 12 April Wallpaper* Magazine will launch it’s annual Wallpaper* Handmade designer exhibition at Salone del Mobile. The strictly invitation only glamorous event will unveil the designers and brands that have come together to fashion custom designs for the Wallpaper* Hotel. Designers such as Julie Richoz, Piero Lissoni, Brioni, Lobmeyr and brands such as Bang & Olufsen, CoveringsETC, Hermes and Starbucks. The pairing of designers with brands is a curated project that begins nearly a year in advance.
Wallpaper* editors coupled Swiss-French designer Julie Richoz and CoveringsET to collaborate on a piece for the Wallpaper* Handmade ‘Hotel Room’. The direction given to the artists and designers was to create anything that could be used in a hotel room. Designer Julie Richioz speaks of the inspiration for her Bio-Glass Room Divider,
‘Looking into the collection of CoveringsETC, my interest became Bio-Glass, which has a very unique character. The material is most often used to cover walls or floor in architecture. I took this opportunity to move away from use as a surface to create a freestanding architectural piece. I took inspiration in Alvar Aalto architecture and outside space dividers found in the Mediterranean, which provides shadow yet visibility.
The design is based on a play of exposing and hiding, in a rhythmic, almost kinetic way and invites one to move around the Bio-Glass wall to discover it.’

When we have collaborated in the past it has been smaller designs that one usually finds at the online Wallpaper* Handmade store. When Julie received our material from which to base her design and sent the initial concept, based on our products Eco-Terr or Bio-Glass, we were blown away! The room divider is 2.7 meters by 3.9 meters and is a unique statement piece. The material Jade Bio-Glass has a story in it’s creation as it is 100% recycled commercial glass so the piece is a continuation of a life cycle. Wallpaper* Magazine confirmed that this will be the second largest piece ever featured in the show and are very excited to have a piece that guests can walk around and fully experience.’
