CandleRay Lighting Helps Del Webb Community Shine

Del Webb at Lake Providence is the first of its kind to conduct a full-scale LED lighting design and installation.

The Del Webb Homeowner’s Association teamed up with Nashville, Tennessee, lighting designer, CandleRay Lighting Company, to develop a full-scale lighting upgrade for Del Webb's Lake Providence community in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. The lighting system was designed to highlight the popular, active adult community's scenic landscapes, resort-style features, and dedication to a healthy lifestyle.  Over the next 10 years, the project will generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings.

CandleRay Lighting laid the groundwork for a successful lighting project by performing an extensive audit of the existing lighting systems. The process included lighting design, energy analysis, forecasted maintenance savings, and photometric and 3D lighting analysis. Once the project was approved, general contractor, The Kingston Group, ensured the project was completed on time and according to specification.

"Del Webb at Lake Providence Homeowners Association is proud to have partnered with CandleRay Lighting and The Kingston Group. The LED light conversion of our 25,000 square-foot clubhouse and several acres of common area outdoor lighting went off without a hitch. The communication and management of this project exceeded our expectations and will help our association achieve its long-term cost savings objectives."

Matthew Dozier, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, Community Association Manager, FirstService Residential, Mid-Atlantic Region.

“We love the new lighting. Our clubhouse, pool, everything looks amazing,” says a longtime Del Webb resident.

The Del Webb community’s parking lot and exterior sport areas consisted of designer pendants that the association wanted to keep; however, the fixtures contained older high-intensity discharge (HID) technology. “Visibility, safety, and the overall aesthetic were as much of a priority as the energy savings,” says Eric Enright, CandleRay Lighting’s Design Engineer. “We were able to retrofit all existing decorative pendants and correctly convert to LED technology, ensuring all electrical and safety marks were maintained. Visibility and aesthetics were drastically improved, and the exterior lighting system's energy consumption was decreased by 75%.”

The clubhouse and community rooms at Del Webb are comfortable, well-designed spaces that called for increased light levels and improved color appearance of artwork and furnishings. The indoor pool lighting was upgraded to blend naturally with the daylight and increase safety for residents and their families. Advanced dimming and motion sensors were installed throughout the facility to further increase energy savings and operational efficiency.

Del Webb’s new lighting system also resulted in significant energy and maintenance savings.  The project qualified for the Tennessee Valley Authority EnergyRight® Solutions for Business program, which incentivized 10% of the initial lighting equipment cost.  In addition, Del Webb Lake Providence utilized Pathway Lending’s Business Energy Loan program, which allowed for a zero-down upgrade yielding over $22,000 in new cash annually based on the project's energy and equipment savings.
