The mission of Special Olympics Florida is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual disabilities who wish to participate, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Tuesday’s BBQ fundraiser will be held at 1121 NW 51st Court, Ft. Lauderdale, 33309. Besides all-you-can-eat chicken and ribs, corn on the cob, sides and drinks, there will also be live music, a silent auction, raffles and prizes. Special Olympics athletes and volunteers will be present as well.

Nathan Wilson, Florida’s Republican candidate for governor in 2018, is a strong supporter of the Special Olympics and will be at the event. Wilson is an Air Force veteran and has over 28 years of executive management experience. His political platform includes the Economy, Jobs, Security and Protection of our State, Counter-Illicit Trafficking, Education, Integration, Enhanced Healthcare, Military & Veterans.

The Big Bad BBQ is an outdoors event, so dress casually—shorts and t-shirts are welcome. There will be lots of fans to help with the heat. Tax-deductible admission is $40 per person.
