Special oils often infused with mind-calming herbs are chosen depending on the constitution and condition of the individual and the season of the year . Deeply stress relieving, Shirodhara calms the nervous system and improves mental clarity and cognition. It is an effective treatment for insomnia, memory loss, hormonal imbalance, headaches, mental tension (anxiety, worry, stress) and certain skin diseases. Shirodhara has also been reported as effective for people seeking to balance jet lag, exhaustion, emotional imbalance, hypertension, asthma, TMJ, ADHD, and various disorders of the head, neck, eyes, ears, nose and nervous system.
The bodywork therapies of Ayurveda Medicine offered by Dr. Rudra are highly specialized and require years of hands on clinical training and
experience to be effective. Ayurvedic type massage offered in spas and centers not dedicated Ayurvedic Medical health care, may appear similar, but are decisively different. Without the proper training in Ayurvedic Medicine, these therapies cannot be administered properly and may even aggravate or worsen the persons condition.
To better understand the how Ayurveda Medicine understands the unique characteristics of each individual in the diagnosis and treatment if disease, Dr. Rudra provides the following brief summary:
Ayurveda, which means "The Science of Life" is a system of medicine originating in ancient India more than 4000 years ago which developed out of the ancient Vedic culture, along side yoga and meditation. According to Ayurveda, everything in the universe is made up of five primary elements, namely, earth, water, fire, air and ether (space). In the human body these primary elementals combine to form three basic constitutional forms or Doshas, which are Vata composed of ether and air, Pitta, composed of fire and water and Kapha, composed of earth and water. Every person has a unique combination of all three Doshas in which each Dosha is expressed in varying proportions. The individual mind-body constitution of each person is determined by the unique combination of the three Doshas. . In a state of health the doshas are in balance. When out of balance, disorders of body and mind are produced.
By understanding ones constitution according to the Doshas and following the appropriate guideline of diets and daily activity, one can enjoy sustained health, energy and freedom from disease.
