APOLAN, the non-profit organization driving global adoption and evolution of optical networks, recently released a trio of projects demonstrating the sustainability benefits of optical local area network (OLAN) technology. 

The latest issue of ICT Today magazine features an article by longtime APOLAN leaders Gayla Arrindell, John Hoover and Jeff Van Horne focusing on building greener high-performance networks. “How Optical LANs Can Support Sustainability in the Digital Era” addresses how commercial buildings can leverage optical LAN technology to build greener networks while meeting evolving technology requirements. 

“Many building professionals are looking to OLAN technology, including point-to-point and point-to-multipoint topologies, to help achieve ESG goals and reduce carbon emissions while lowering costs,” the article explains. “OLAN can reduce energy consumption, support efficient power delivery over greater distances, reduce space and material, and provide overall operational and capital savings in various environments, applications and deployments.”
