About the Artists
Stephanie Franks explores linear elements and painted forms. Each painting of Stephanie Franks might be compared to a journey, a voyage of discovery. The journey begins as paint is applied. A sense of tension permeates the whisper of atmospheric space, which is locked into place by line, form and color. Painted forms and linear elements define place and speak of the struggle engaged in during their execution.
Caren Sommer-Lazar’s current work includes line drawings and paintings from nature and 3D assemblages. Her outdoor studies capture the sense of the unseen, dark and enchanted wandering into unfamiliar woods. The 3D assemblages convey both tainted and innocent qualities.
Evelyn Sadler showcases a strange and snowy world. Evelyn explains, “I like to paint with the camera. Through photography I engage intimately with my surroundings and play with reflections to create an alternative reality, sometimes a bit dreamy, other times more emotional or intriguing. Viewers are deprived of the concrete context and are encouraged to get involved in a more subjective exploration. My intention is to evoke a certain mood and generate a sense of wonder or uncertainty.”
Cecile Brunswick wandered to the exotic destinations of Morocco, Mexico and Spain. Cecile elaborates, “When I travel, I often see architecture, colors, scenery, people, and music that is visibly ‘different’ to me. My abstract paintings are infused with the colors, light, languages and sounds of other cultures. Trips to Morocco and Mexico, for instance changed my palette and the way I paint. I try to convey, in an abstract way, the warmth and friendliness I encountered in my travels.”
