Addiction Canada's John Haines Says Alberta Was Affected by Ontario Locations' Problems
Even though charges were dropped against Addiction Canada and its owner, it was too late for Alberta.
CALGARY, Alberta, November 14, 2017 (Newswire.com) - For the first time, John Haines talks about how Addiction Canada's Alberta locations were affected last year by negative attention directed at the company's Ontario locations. Addiction Canada Alberta was forced to close down its Alberta locations as the charges against its owner John Haines in Ontario forced media coverage by CTV Calgary.
"The subsequent attention from the media forced the RCMP of Alberta to commence an investigation against our Alberta locations in Glendon and Sundre," says John Haines CEO & Founder of Addiction Canada. The RCMP investigation garnished much more media attention and a subsequent mini- series of investigative reports. "This negative attention for Addiction Canada both in the media and online started to ruin our business right away," says Haines. "They (the media) were reporting allegations and lies from former staff and clients and then when people research their possible choice of treatment center for their loved one and come upon this information online they immediately avoid Addiction Canada like the plague." He continues, "The business went down within a few months and we were eventually forced to close." Haines also adds, "The RCMP investigation revealed nothing and Addiction Canada was cleared of any wrongdoing in Alberta."

As of Nov. 3, 2017, the charges against Haines and Addiction Canada were dropped but Haines says, "The damage was long done and when something hits online like this there is no overcoming it." When asked if he could resurrect Addiction Canada in the future, Haines answered, "There is much to consider but as I have said before, it was a year later after closing that the charges were dropped and the severe online damage to reputation was done and I am not sure we could recoup our reputation, time will tell." Haines maintains he will be diligent in clearing his name and that of Addiction Canada but his family has carried on in the business with another organization using his programs and ideas. Haines has been busy since 2016 with many interventions across Canada with the recent Canadian addiction and overdose epidemic.
"The thing that kept me going was I always knew I was 100 percent innocent and would fight at all levels to clear my good name and get back my reputation," says Haines. "I had to answer to what happened to Addiction Canada in light of everything."
