New Southall primary school takes safety very seriously with a fully integrated fire and security system from Oxford-based Chris Lewis Fire & Security

Based in Oxford, Chris Lewis Fire & Security wins the contract to provide an integrated fire and security system with more than 300 fire detection points, gas shutoff, perimeter security, and CCTV for Khalsa Primary School in Southall, Middlesex.

Oxford-based Chris Lewis Fire & Security has been awarded the contract to provide comprehensive fire and security systems for Khalsa Primary School - a new voluntary aided school being built in Southall, Middlesex. The contract, which includes the design, installation and commissioning of fire alarm, intruder alarm, CCTV and access control systems, was awarded by GA Electrical Contractors.

Carl Vink, Managing Director at GA Electrical, comments, "When we won the electrical contract for this project, there was no question about bringing in Chris Lewis Fire & Security to supply the fire and security systems. Their expertise means that they can meet the full scope of system requirements, from design to commissioning, and we know from experience that we can rely on them to deliver on time, to budget and to very high standards."

The fire system at Khalsa School is L1-rated, affording the highest levels of protection to pupils and staff. It comprises more than 300 fire detection points throughout the three-storey building, including heat detectors and smoke detectors, and beam detectors in the school's large glass atrium, as well as a disabled refuge. The fire alarm is also being integrated with the liquid extinguishant system in the school's kitchen, and the building's mechanical plant shutdown, so that gas intake will be shut off automatically if a fire alarm is activated.

The school security system that Chris Lewis Fire & Security has designed includes a grade 3 intruder alarm protecting the school's perimeter, with extensive internal movement detection and doors contacts. It also features an IP CCTV system with 13 fully functional dome cameras, a video/audio intercom controlling access through the school's main door, and further access controlled doors between Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 classrooms.
