Karate, Wrestling & Power Lifting Competitions Hit the Mats in Early May 2014 at River City Sports Festival in Mason City, Iowa

Online, April 30, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Karate, wrestling and power lifting competitions are three of the nine featured tournaments being showcased at the inaugural River City Sports Festival [RCSF] in Mason City, Iowa. These tournaments begin on May 10, 2014, with weigh-ins for wrestling and power lifting on May 9. Each tournament will be separated into several age, weight and/or class divisions for both amateur athletes and sport enthusiasts. Both genders are encouraged to compete.

Ronin' Productions LLC, the presenter of RCSF, and tournament directors have recently reported that registration is growing steadily since announcing the inaugural event last March. RCSF is expected to become an annual event in the Mason City area and grow to a level achieved by other multi-sport events, such as "The Arnold" and "Mr. Olympia." Each of the competitions this year are being run by a director who has handled other tournaments specific to his sport at the local, regional and national levels.

To add to the already building excitement of the three-day event, Budweiser is presenting Rumble in River City, a pro wrestling spectacular featuring former WWE and WCW as well as current TNA Impact superstars. The show is set for Saturday night, May 10, at North Iowa Area Community College [NIACC].

"We anticipate some very formidable matches during the karate and wrestling tournaments, as well as records possibly being set during the power lifting contests. Karate Tournament
The karate competition features many divisions and is being hosted at NIACC. Individuals will compete in one of the following belt classes for both men and women: White and Gold; Green, Purple and Blue; Red and Brown; and Black in traditional, creative musical, weapons and fighting. Each participant is required to bring a completed RCSF medical release, which is available at RCSportsFestival.com, to compete. There is a $35 entry fee for the first contest, then a $15 fee for each one thereafter.

Dan "The Beast" Severn, former UFC Triple Crown Champion and NWA superstar, as well as featured wrestler for the final match against RCSF Commissioner Miller at Rumble in River City, will host a mixed-martial arts clinic May 9, delivering a karate demonstration. The karate competition is being sponsored by Graham Tire Co. of Mason City, and supported by Randy Milhan's Karate Center and Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Dojo.

"Our goal is to make the sport of karate number one for competitors, spectators, judges, promoters and parents throughout Iowa and the surrounding area," said Truman Irving, RCSF karate director. "There's no limit to the way these competitors can use karate to shape their own journey, not only at the River City Sports Festival, but through life."

Wrestling Competition
The wrestling competition features weight divisions by age for individuals, with all matches taking place at NIACC. Grapplers will hit the mats May 10, with weigh-ins set for May 9 at The Clarion Inn in Mason City. The ages to compete include 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 15U and 18U, who must be currently enrolled in high school. "The sport of wrestling helps young people develop important qualities, such as self esteem, sportsmanship, work ethic and leadership skills," said Brent Jennings, Osage High School wrestling coach and RCSF wrestling director. "It's the world's oldest sport and teaches control. It develops and improves one's ability to perform in other sports. We are thrilled to spotlight this discipline and its competitors at the River City Sports Festival." Dalton Jensen, former collegiate wrestler at Iowa State, is the assistant operations director for the wrestling competition.

Power Lifting Competition
The power lifting competition will only feature the bench press and will be held at the Muse Norris Conference Center at NIACC. Individuals will compete in weight classes in either the Teen [19U], Open [ages 20 - 39] or Master [ages 40 and up] division, with weigh-ins set for May 9 also at The Clarion Inn. The competition is being sponsored by NIP Fitness, a new 5,100-square-foot facility in Mason City.

Jake Prazak, a two-time bench press world-record holder and founder of NIP Fitness, is the RCSF power lifting director. "We are excited to be a part of the River City Sports Festival and have this opportunity to show why fitness and health is so important for any age and how power lifting can be one of the ways to achieve those goals," Prazak said.

The River City Sports Festival, sponsored by Accelerated Rehabilitation Centers, is May 9 - 11, 2014, for both individual and team competitors.
