Sanjay Kumar is an extremely focused man and is currently working as Regional Director (North) at Council for Leather Exports (CLE), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. He is making significant efforts to bring in desired changes in the leather industry to give a boost to exports from India. Among his other initiatives is the recent impetus he has given to an Italian collaboration with NID and FDDI for setting up a design studio. The studio aims at bringing Italian technology and know-how to the Indian market.

Born in Palamau district of Jharkhand, Sanjay graduated from Ranchi University and completed his Master's degree in English from Patna as well as an M.A and M. Phil in Geography from Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Sanjay has written and published many papers on social issues. He is a management graduate from IMT-CDL, Ghaziabad.

His choice of IMT was based on the emerging knowledge-based society that demands managers who are flexible and versatile. They need to learn continuously and upgrade their skills as the technology used advances. Innovative forms of transnational education based on the internet have been opened to students around the world. This has made distance education a more vibrant and rewarding experience, especially with IMT-CDL.

He also worked with prestigious organisations like Ford Foundation & CSD (Council for Social Development) in Delhi. He also became instrumental in the development of clusters and infrastructural facilities like Common Facility Centre, Design studio and Testing Laboratories in the in Northern Region of India to help smaller exporters boost exports from India. He is also actively working for skill development in the leather sector and has been instrumental in finding and aligning synergies between similar orgnisations in the field.

Right from his days as a student, Sanjay has been quite active socially as well as in his domain-related fields. He also served as President of Periyar at Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) for the Year 2000-2001.
