KBE Building Corp. Awarded for Annapolis Joint Commissary & Navy Exchange

Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc (ABC) - Chesapeake Shores Chapter Honors KBE

Military families have already expressed their admiration for the Annapolis Joint Commissary and Navy Exchange; now its construction team has been officially recognized with an award from the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc (ABC) – Chesapeake Shores Chapter.

Staff members from KBE Building Corporation (KBE), General Contractor for the project, received the 2015 Excellence in Construction Award (Federal Government/Military $10-100 Million Category) at the Chapter’s 2015 Excellence in Construction dinner, held at the Westin Annapolis Hotel on Sept. 24.

Project Highlights | Annapolis Joint Commissary and Navy Exchange

·         renovation of 51,000 s/f Joint Commissary

·         new construction of 98,000 s/f Navy Exchange with a 10,000 s/f garden center

·         LEED Silver certification

·         Completed in 2014

The project achieved LEED Silver certification, in part for the unique way it captures onsite rainwater: Roof pipes direct water under the parking lot into water-holding rock beds, then ground technology channels the water to bio-retention areas. KBE’s construction team had to adhere to strict environmental controls during construction to protect the fragile Chesapeake Bay watershed area.

Ongoing Support for the US Military

The Annapolis Joint Commissary and Navy Exchange represents KBE’s second of three construction projects for the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA). The firm also built the $14.5 million, 57,000 s/f Commissary in Groton, CT and is building the $2.5 million, 53,000 s/f Navy Exchange in Millington, TN.

In addition to construction, KBE serves military personnel and their families through its corporate philanthropic program 50 Ways to Make a Difference. Established in 2009 to celebrate the firm’s new ownership, name change, and five decades in business, 50 Ways has helped KBE donate more than $1.7 million and 9,000 volunteer hours to benefit military veterans, children, and seniors in Connecticut and Maryland.
