You're Invited: Play Date Short Film Crowdfunding to Raise Awareness for Homelessness

Short comedy addressing homelessness launches crowdfunding campaign with partial proceeds going directly to housing and social services organization, OPCC.

Play Date, currently crowdfunding for production costs and partial giveback to charity, is the story of a little girl who discovers a homeless woman in her backyard and invites her inside for a playdate.

Paige Morrow Kimball, the writer/director of Play Date found her inspiration for the script during a rush-hour drive through Downtown LA while avoiding traffic. "I found myself on Skid Row and there were dozens of homeless people on the streets setting up their tents for the night. I couldn't believe it. It's a side of LA we don't typically's like a dirty little secret." Kimball, a Filmmaker and Huffington Post Blogger was moved by the sight to write the script and is now making the film.

Kimball and the producers of Play Date seek to bring awareness to the plight of over 600,000 people who are living on the streets of the US. The Play Date team is partnered with and donating partial proceeds to housing and social services organization, OPCC (Ocean Park Community Center) an independent, community-supported agency in Santa Monica dedicated to empowering people to rebuild their lives. The goal of OPCC is to end human suffering, not simply manage it.

Playing The Homeless Woman, is actress Terry Walters, who is best known for her roles on Southland, Brothers and Sisters, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Desperate Housewives, Beginners, and The M Word. "As an actress," Walters explains, "I'm always asking myself, what can I do to give back? When I read this script, I was completely moved and thought, 'Wow, this is it...this is how I can give back.' "

Also signed on to star in Play Date, is Tami Roman, the dynamic personality of Vh1 reality series 'Basketball Wives.' As a child, Roman herself was homeless and living on the streets of New York when her mother was terminated from her job. Play Date touches a personal place for Roman and she's proud to be a part of the cast.

In addition to donating partial proceeds to OPCC, Play Date's fundraising campaign offers rewards including volunteering at OPCC with the cast and crew, and other philanthropic events directly benefiting the homeless community in Los Angeles. The goal of the short film is to challenge the audience's view of homeless individuals while inspiring them to play a part in ending human suffering. The Play Date team strongly believes that together we can make a difference in the lives of others.
