Women In Domaining Alive And Well At NamesCon

Burlington, MA (January 9, 2014)—Endurance International Group today announced that Lisa Box, Senior Director - Domains, will be hosting a "Women in Domaining" social and networking event at NamesCon, next week.

NamesCon, a new conference dedicated to the domain name industry, will feature over thirty sessions, including presentations, panels and interviews from January 13-15 in Las Vegas, NV. With over 500 attendees registered, it will be the largest conference dedicated solely to the domain name industry, at a time when the business is reinventing itself to accommodate a wave of new TLDs in the coming months.
According to Richard Lau, the conference's show producer, "NamesCon is focused on two things: content and networking. I believe that our content is turning heads from all over the industry, with three tracks of simultaneous sessions and multiple keynote speakers. And with over 500 attendees already registered, the networking will prove to be some of the best in recent years."

"Women in Domaining" began in 2012 as a unique networking event to appeal to the industry's female executives. Ironically, while a majority of domainers who attend these conferences are men, many domain companies including Domain.com, Igloo, Domaintools, and The .CO Registry have women in senior leadership positions.

Tessa Holcomb, Co-Founder and CEO of Igloo, has attended WID events since they began. She stated, "When I joined the industry, the WID events were small enough to be held in someone's hotel room. It's great to see that, just a few years later, the numbers have multiplied more than tenfold, with many women holding high level positions among some of the most successful companies in the industry!"
Holcomb believes that the WID events enhance what NamesCon offers. "It's great to have a smaller, more targeted event providing the opportunity to meet and get to know more of the other women in the domain industry and beyond!"

Susan Prosser, VP Partner & Industry Relations at DomainTools, commented, "WID has historically proven to be advantageous in building and securing relationships. I have made new connections with key contacts with companies I want to do business with."

Lisa Box, a domain industry veteran, has hosted the event for the past two years. Lisa is considered a living, breathing icon of female mentorship in the domain industry, lending her time to helping others with their understanding and career development. Working with the NamesCon team, Box has organized a female-only card tournament for Monday night, to be followed by a networking event for those women attending NamesCon.

Each year the group creates a pledge for its members — a challenge of sorts to complete throughout the year. Last year members of the group were tasked with bringing one new woman into the domain industry. This year, the women will work to bring their group to the everyday world, starting with a special Facebook group page to facilitate collaboration, connection and exchange.

When asked why WID is important, Lisa Box said, "In the past, domain industry events were very male focused - we estimate less than ten percent of the industry is women. However, more women have been joining the ranks of some of the largest companies in the industry and in very influential positions. A group of us thought it was a great time to start creating connections among the women. Every year more women attend and ask when the next event will take place. I am thrilled that NamesCon is supporting the event and look forward to seeing old friends and new faces. This is a particularly exciting time in the industry and we can't wait to get started."
