Tom Olsewski and Pam Bashor from The Action Agents Team of Short Sale Specialists take the day off.

2nd Annual "RED Day" Set to Lend a Hand in Temecula, Keller Williams Realty part of the community service initiative in the US and Canada

Temecula May 14, 2010 - Tom Olsewski, Pam Bashor and 50 Keller Williams Realty associates in Temecula have taken the day off on Thursday, May 13, 2010, but it will hardly be a day of rest. Tom, Pam with 50 local Temecula agents and over 25,000 associates across the United States and Canada will spend their day off by giving back as part of the company's community service initiative, RED Day.

Short for "Renew, Energize and Donate," RED Day was created to unite Keller Williams Realty offices and associates in an international day of service. During RED Day 2009, over 25,000 Keller Williams associates participated in activities ranging from food and blood drives to cleaning up trash in public parks, doing yard work for neighbors in need or revamping gardens at nursing homes. Last year on RED Day, the company donated over 130,000 hours.

As part of the RED Day effort, the Temecula Market Center has chosen to spend the day with The Dorland Art Colony in Temecula. Dorland Mountain Arts Colony is a non-profit artist's community set on 300 acres along a ridge overlooking the Temecula Valley. The colony covers about 10 acres with the rest of the land left in its natural state.

In May, 2004, a wildfire swept through Dorland Mountain Arts Colony, destroying all ten buildings. Plans to rebuild are moving forward.

Mission

The mission of Dorland Mountain Arts Colony is to provide a unique working and performance retreat fostering creativity, and a community connection to the creative process, in a secluded natural setting.

Programs

As Dorland rebuilds, art programs, Open Studio events, and community outreach will continue off-site in various locations throughout the Temecula Valley.

Dorland has provided a series of quarterly, six-week drawing and painting workshops for at-risk teenagers. Robert Willis, watercolor artist and Dorland caretaker for the past twelve years, has instructed these classes, as well as Andrew Davis, former Dorland Resident.

Poetry and writers workshops are planned for young adults. Future project ideas include workshop participants setting their words to music and performing them, or hearing them performed, in a public concert setting.

Open Studio events, featuring former Dorland residents, and other local, regional, national, and international artists, are planned throughout each year. Programming plans include chamber and jazz ensembles in concert, a benefit concert featuring legendary artist Mason Williams, readings from original manuscripts, art walks, and a variety of performances by talented young musicians.

"We are ready to paint Temecula red! We are excited to be a part of RED Day and continue important company tradition of giving," said Team Leader Arlis Travis. "Last year, we ran a food drive helping a local food bank. We can't tell you what an impact it made on each of us personally-it felt so great to give back to the community we know and love."
